The voting exercise has  generally been peaceful in Kenya despite some delays andmalfuctions  with the electronic kits in some parts of Kenya.

This general elections follows an intense and rigorous campaigns fueled by debates about increased costs of living costs, fuel costs,youth unemployment and blatant corruption.

The main contenders  for presidency  are former Minister Raila Odinga and the current Deputy President William Samoei Ruto.

The outgoing president Uhuru Kenyatta is supporting his former foe Mr  Raila Odinga for the top seat, after a falling out with Mr Ruto,the current deputy president.

More than 30% of the 22 million  voters had cast their vote by midday or noon local time (09:00 GMT), the electoral commission IEBC stated

A high rank election official in Kenya's central region of Nyeri has told journalists that the turnout has been generally low in that part of the country compared to the previous general elections held in 2017.
